Welcome to Saltaire Arts Trail 2010
The Saltaire Arts Trail is bringing colour and vibrancy to the streets of Saltaire once again this year, preparing the way for our move to May next year.
Wander through the streets of the village and you’ll discover the ever-popular Open Houses: 6 residents’ houses have been transformed into unique temporary gallery spaces showcasing the finest art and craft from across Yorkshire. Amongst others, you’ll find Dionne Swift at 75 Albert Road, who was a featured artist at the Knitting and Stitching shows last year, and Liza Dracup at 10 Edward Street, whose solo show opened Impressions Gallery’s move to Bradford in 2007.
We also have 2 exhibition houses, including Andy Abbott and Yvonne Carmichael at 44 Whitlam Street, Andy, fresh from his recent weekend exhibiting in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern. It is a treat walking across someone’s threshold not knowing what to expect and unearthing real treasures.
The Makers’ Fair is a strong event again in the magnificent surroundings of Victoria Hall. Displaying their work are some extremely talented makers selling pieces that range from the quirky to the irresistible. Chat to the makers in a warm and friendly environment and find the ideal handmade gift or something for yourself that you’ll love for years to come.
In the stunning roof space of Salts Mill is an exhibition of photographs by one of the country’s leading photo-journalists, Asadour Guzelian. This, his first solo show, is a mini-retrospective capturing life in Yorkshire over the last 25 years. Asadour will be in conversation with Anne McNeill, Director of Impressions Gallery, in the roof space, on Wednesday 15th September.
We have brought all the family activities together under one roof, or one canopy of trees, this year. The air will be buzzing with the sound of creativity, as little hands make dens, flags, bug hotels and pictorial masterpieces. Fantastic Bradford organisations Artworks and Kirkgate Studios and Workshops, and students from Thornton Grammar School, will be on hand to encourage artistic indulgence and ensure that kids (and their parents or guardians) leave with a smile on their faces and something to be proud of in their hands.
And if you are keen to experiment with drawing or have always wanted to have a go at making a pinhole camera, don’t forget to book yourself on the workshops run by Kirkgate Studios and Workshops. Undoubtedly, they will be very popular.
We hope that you have fun. And if you want to, why not come and find us
at one of our information points and have a chat; we’d love to meet you. |
