Mark Yates
Bradford born Mark Yates trained in graphic design, and pursued sign writing, graphic art, and calligraphy, whilst achieving fame as guitarist and co-songwriter in international rock band Terrorvision.
His work strongly echoes his background in rock ‘n’ roll music. Each piece is based on songs he has written. Influenced by old school tattoos and modern day street culture, he presents alluring temptations, suggestions of loose women, booze and a wayward lifestyle.
Combining sign writing skills and naïve airbrush technique, Mark’s love of kitsch and low brow art is exploited, to flatter his subject, as he glamorises failings in moral conduct.
