Dianne Cross
I have been known for my contemporary thrown domestic stoneware for a number of years and now work part-time from home and also work at Leeds College of Art.
My current ceramic work is hand built and mostly monochromatic, using a black clay and a matt off white glaze. I am making a series of black and white footed bowls with undulating yet crater –like edges. This new matt glazed work, also using other clay/glaze combinations, expresses my love of textured surfaces and includes individual hand built boxes, angular slabbed forms and wall pieces.
My inspiration comes partly from images of West African adobe architecture and also reflects my interest in textural surfaces. My work is continually evolving, current pieces influence the next group. I also play with clay, experimenting with ideas for textures, surfaces and so on. My ideas are generally material led and I am interested in architecture/architectural details, textiles and sculpture. I am also experimenting with introducing other media into my work. |
