Daniel Metcalfe
I am a 30 year old painter based in Shipley. I studied art at Bradford College and Huddersfield University and have recently shown work in Harrogate Leeds and Bingley.
My work used to be primarily concerned with Landscape. My intentions were always to veer away from a traditional 'reproductive' style and avoid painting anything too 'nice', although sometimes I accidentally achieved this. As I mature as an artist the subjects that I once thought symbolic now seem slightly tame in comparison to my current body of work, which is only motivated by the desire to find a certain aesthetic balance. I guess I am really only interested in handling and achieving a visual 'rightness'. Subject is unimportant. This frees me to incorporate influences ranging from De Kooning, Kline and Diebenkorn to Sickert, Uglow and Motherwell.
