Nicky Dillerstone
I have a long held fascination with fabrics, their touch, colour and movement, from my mothers dance dresses of the 50's to a small piece of pink rubber fabric sent to me as gift wrapping. I have developed a style of my own through 10 years experience of community projects and deliver workshops and talks to schools and textile/embroidery groups to share my enthusiasm and ways of working.
My work has two directions.
Wearable/functional pieces
I create necklaces, bracelets, brooches, felted bags and cuffs, usually very structural and intricate, and very feminine. A favourite motif is the leaf and this is present in most of my wearable/functional pieces. All of my work has a touch of whimsy and intrigue to take you out of the day-to-day.
3D work
I work structurally in layers to create 3D pieces in the form of books, boxes, nests and miniature shoes with intricate surfaces, creating secret areas, conveying a mood inviting the viewer to look closer. At the moment I am creating small ‘nests’ with felted fabric that has rich in detail inside and out with stitching, bead work and mixed media elements |
