Laura Creer
After three years studying jewellery at Leeds College of Art and Design, I worked within the jewellery trade for a large jewellery manufacturer. This insight into both the creative and constructive aspect of jewellery making is an integral part of my designs. My inspiration lies with the techniques and skills I thrive from working with and it is this that drives my work.
My ribbon collection embraces techniques such as reticulation and fusing to form organic one-off patterns. The thrill of working with molten surfaces and expecting the unexpected makes this collection a joy to make. It combines different textures and terrains to make tactile and intriguing pieces of jewellery.
My bow collection strips the familiar vintage shape often found in opulent Victorian jewellery and brings it in line with modern desires. Each silver bow is individually made by hand. This replicates the process of trying to tie the perfect bow; no matter how hard we try, it changes each time it is made.
Along with running my own business, I am also a qualified teacher and run jewellery making courses at a variety of arts centres and colleges in Leeds. |
