Once upon a time there was a girl who dreamed of adventure. Although she loved her family and friends, she felt the urge to travel. Far and wide she roamed and wound up living on the opposite side of the world for a time. There her cravings for the extreme and the remote were fulfilled in the Land of the Long White Cloud, Aetearoa. After a while she began to long for a way to share this wonderful place with the people she loved and others she met along the way. Taking pictures didn’t seem quite enough, she wanted to create something that was as functional as it was beautiful. Being a book-lover, she hit upon the idea of making a range of traditional hand-bound books; hand-folding and tearing the pages, sewing the sections and lacing them into boards covered with the images she had photographed. Because she wanted people to be able to see the intricate structure of a hand-made book, she left the spines exposed; and because she wanted to look after the wonderful world in which she lived, she tried to use recycled materials wherever possible. Now she’s returned home and hopes to share her books with you too. |
