Book Art by Lynette Willoughby, Sue Wray, Jean Sagheddu and David Honeybone
Books are the starting point – they are familiar, tactile and accessible but experiments and investigations can take them in all sorts of directions. In the hands of this group they can turn into the unexpected, both in form and content. The work on display will include beautiful books cast in concrete, a feathered book, embroidered map miniature books, hand made dyed felt books, hand made paper books, books in bottles, doll books, and an investigation of time passing. Some will not look like books at all. In other words an eclectic mix of craft and conceptual art responding to our love of books.
The makers started working together as students on the part time fine art degree course at Leeds College of Art and Design. During the course they discovered a common interest in book art which brought together their different styles of working. The illustration is of a previous project, a functioning lending library of “books” that had never before been found at Leeds City Library. |
