flaX Textile Group
flaX are a group of textile artists who support and encourage one another whilst exploring new themes and ideas for exhibition.
Their aim is to create and present contemporary and innovative artwork which illustrates the world around us, past and present, and which reflects nature’s creation and man’s impact upon it.
Members of the group are all specialists in their own fields and can provide talks, workshops and artefacts for exhibition and sale covering a range of art and textile disciplines.
Sue Ingles’ current work is inspired by some dramatic winter sunrises. Experiments with Batik techniques have produced a collection of fabric which Sue has used for notebook covers, greetings cards, brooches, bookmarks and buttons. She also has a range of eco-friendly shopping bags.
Lesley Johnson’s work is influenced by the pared down simplicity of Japanese art both in terms of simple mark making as well as conceptually in relation to eternal shapes. These influences have resulted in her producing a varied portfolio of work including exposed spine bookmaking techniques and hand dyed printed scarves.
Helen Slinger’s work combines the more contemporary digital manipulation of images with the more traditional elements of fabric and stitch. Inspired by her photographs of plants and trees, Helen produces framed textile pieces, printed and stitched greeting cards, covered notebooks and other stationery. |
