Barbara Cassell
I work in textiles and metals to create jewellery and hats. My main areas of interest are in the combination of colours and textures and when making jewellery I work predominantly with copper which I texture and then patinate using both chemicals and heat. I use silver, rubber and other materials to create ear wires, pins and hangings which then become an integral part of the overall design. My work is really intended for those who like something a little different that doesn't cost the earth.
My hats are usually made from felted wools with decorative panels or details - each one being a 'one-off' in terms of the decorative element and the combination of fabrics. All are intended to be easy to wear and practical whilst being just a little bit more unusual.
I sell my work both directly to the public through exhibitions and fairs and also through a small number of galleries and shops in the north of England. |
